Gowanus CAG Updates

The Gowanus CAG Water Quality Committee will meet tonight (Oct. 16) at 6:30 pm at CB6 Community Room, 250 Baltic Street.  The public is welcome.

Agenda:

  1. Preparation for Oct. 29 meeting with DEC.
  2. Strategy for roll-out of TASC report.
  3. Next steps for engagement with DEP.
  4. Other business.

Fulton Manufactured Gas Plant (MGP) remediation site: NYS DEC will hold a public information meeting on Oct. 18 at 7 p.m. at The Children’s School at 219 1st Street, in the Gymnasium, to present the recently completed Remedial Investigation (RI) results and discuss next steps.  See attached “Fulton Final RI Fact Sheet” for more info.

Also attached is the draft meeting summary from the CAG’s Oct. 2 meeting, and presentations from that meeting on the Public Health Assessment being prepared by NYSDOH and ATSDR, and the Brooklyn Atlantis Project being conducted by Polytechnic Institute of NYU, using floating robotic monitoring devices and a citizen-science web interface to assist with environmental monitoring and control in the Gowanus Canal. Reminder: CAG General Meeting will be Oct. 23 and a special meeting will be held Oct. 29 with NYS DEC senior officials. Both meetings are at 6:30 pm, locations TBD, and the public is welcome.
